Vehicle Import to Canada Regulations
One should make sure vehicle is admissible and can be modified to Canadian requirements by checking Transport Canada’s “List of Vehicles Admissible from the U.S.”, and check for typical modification requirements. The importer should contact original manufacturer or authorized dealer of vehicle to obtain any Recall Clearance Letters. Also he/she have to obtain information from manufacturer or authorized dealer on costs for modifications. There may be additional costs such as Duty and Taxes from the CBSA. The required documentation is: title, registration, sales receipts, statement of compliance label, and recall clearance letter.
At the border you would have to complete Vehicle Import Form – Form 1, CBSA will provide. Upon confirmation, CBSA will collect Registrar of Imported Vehicles fee (RIV) of $195 CAN + GST (Goods and Services Tax).
