Take off any boat covers. Try not to use shrink wrap, because it easily rips during travel and can cause damage to your boat. If you have your boat shrink wrapped, transporters will attempt to fix any tears during travel, however they cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by shrink wrap, or any other coverings. You should avoid having a wooden boat dry out during transport, simply coat it with linseed oil. And keep in mind your boat will be experiencing stronger winds than it is used to, so expect it to arrive with normal travel wear and dirt from the roads.
Preparing a Sailboat Usually the keel of a sailboat will give the appearance of some separation from the hull, but keep in mind this is just minor cracking in the paint or sealant. Also mind that your mast will be secured to the trailer, not on your boat. Make sure it is secured on carpet at the spots it is tied down, if not completely wrapped in carpet, to help avoid paint scratches. Paint cracks and wear in these areas are close to impossible to avoid due to the chafing from road vibrations. Some disassembling and rearranging of the sailboat may be necessary in order to reach the desired traveling height.
