You are also obligated to obtain an interim license plate from customs upon importation. The vehicle must have an insurance issued by a Swedish insurance company that provides the usual type of cover against third party liabilities.

You must then go to the Swedish Vehicle Registration Authority to get your vehicle registered.

Exemptions
The vehicle are admitted duty free as migrants' effects if the person concerned proves by means of the foreign vehicle registration document that he had used the vehicle abroad for a period of time that is stipulated by the Council Regulation (EEC) No 918/83 before transferring his domicile to Sweden.

There are other exemptions concerning foreign tourists, foreign commercial travelers, seasonal workers, short period residents etc.
