Procedure for person moving to UK to follow - Re-registration
A person moving to the UK has nine months in which to re-register her/his vehicle
1. Cancel registration of vehicle at Jersey Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, La Collette, St Helier. Owner will be given a 'Certificate of Origin'. This may be done by post from UK.
2. Declare entry of vehicle at Port of Entry to UK so that Customs clearance form is issued.
3. Vehicle must be registered as soon as possible in residential area in UK. Owner must produce:
- 'Certificate of Origin'
- 'MOT' for cars over 3 years old
- British insurance certificate
- customs clearance form, if owner was given one at port of entry, either CNE 386, or 388 and go to the local Vehicle Licensing office as soon as possible.

No VAT is payable by the owner if:
1. the vehicle has been owned for at least 6 months
2. the owner has lived in Jersey for at least 1 year
3. the vehicle is not sold for at least 1 year after export to UK
If the vehicle is sold, VAT at 17.5% is payable on the proceeds of the sale (the new registration document having been stamped to indicate this).

If VAT is due, it is payable at 17.5% of car's value gauged from vehicle's sales invoice, or UK 'book' price. The vehicle must be declared in Red Channel, if there is a customs' presence, and payment made by cash, building society cheque, or pre-guaranteed bank cheque. Credit Cards are not accepted. If an ordinary bank cheque is paid, no clearance document will be issued for ten days but the car may be driven away.

If no customs' official is present on the docks the owner should drive home and contact the nearest Customs and Excise Advice Centre as soon as possible.
